THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

I hope you’ve followed through in setting goals and action steps for your personal life! How are you doing? Are you still motivated? If you’ve fallen short don’t beat yourself up, just celebrate the fact that you’ve made a START  and get going again! You’re ahead of where you WOULD have been! So get back on track  and DON’T GIVE UP!

Now let’s look at  the next area of your life: YOUR HOME.

Some of you  may not think of this as a “category” It’s just where you eat, sleep, and watch TV, right? But the atmosphere of your home is something that you don’t want to just “let happen”!  You need to INTENTIONALLY CREATE the kind of atmosphere you want to provide for your family and friends! For example, do you want to provide a warm and inviting home where others feel welcome and relaxed? Do you want bright and sunny spaces filled with your personal treasures that reflect who you are? Do you want music to fill the rooms of your home? Are books and family photos important to you? Would you like your home to be neat and orderly? How about the aroma of your home? Would you like to have pleasant scents filling the air? Is it important to you to have flowers and plants in your home? Do you want your home to be a place known for its laughter filled rooms? Do you want hospitality to be a big part of the use of your home? Do you want good healthy food to be a part of your environment? Do you want unconditional love felt throughout your home? Would you encourage creativity and imagination? Do you want your home to reflect God’s love?

Music, books, personal treasures, family photos, flowers, sunshine, wonderful scents and aromas,, laughter, order, warm and inviting atmosphere, reflection of God, good food, hospitality, unconditional love, creativity, imagination, welcoming…. These are just a few ideas that you might want to incorporate in some way into the atmosphere of your home. HOW you do that is uniquely personal and that is where you can get creative and have some FUN!

The photo above is a photo of a table setting for a family dinner of ours. My husband and I are empty nesters so we enjoy getting family together as much as we can. So one of my goals is to host lots of family dinner gatherings with good food and a colorful fun table setting to set the mood and create joy. Everything pictured here was either from a yard sale or discount store. I like to have a few flowers on the table but usually purchase a couple of stems individually and then get more from the garden. I always use linen napkins, again purchased at yard sales. Trying to make things a bit special makes my family feel special. And you don’t have to spend a lot to create some joy!

Your assignment for this week is to SET THREE GOALS that will help you create the kind of atmosphere you want in your home. After you have set your three goals you need to provide at least one ACTION STEP for each goal. The action step will be one action you will take on a daily basis that will help you reach your goal.

Have some fun with this! Remember, your home says a lot about who you are. May your home speak warmly about you! : )
