In order to be JOYFULLY BALANCED, we have divided up our lives into 6 areas: Personal, Home, Relationships, Finances, Work/Job, Giving/Serving. And in order to have a balanced life, we need to make sure we are addressing needs in each of these areas.

We women tend to think of others but neglect ourselves so I’m going to focus on the Personal area first. When you are in an airplane and the oxygen masks drop down, you’re told to put YOUR own mask on first and then help your children put theirs on. The same is true in life. You have to make sure you are meeting your own personal needs before you can help others. This is not being selfish. This just makes sense! If you are not healthy you will not be able to help others.

So take out  your “ideal balanced life” sheet ( and if you haven’t done this first assignment, do it NOW.. see previous  2 posts ) and check to  see if you included your OWN PERSONAL needs in describing your “balanced life”. For example, you may have mentioned that your balanced life would include “time for yourself”. If you didn’t mention your own needs, be prepared to consider this need now. Take a sheet of paper and write on it the following:

1) My Personal Life

a) Mind

b) Body

c) Spirit

Considering these three areas of your PERSONAL LIFE, list  ONE GOAL  in each area that you would be willing to  focus and work on for the next 30 days. For example, you may list under “mind” this goal: To have a  calmer and happier mind by” being in the moment”. Your “body” goal might be: To get in better shape by walking. And your “spirit” goal might be: To know God better by praying and then listening to God.. Start with one goal so it doesn’t seem overwhelming as we’ll also be setting goals in the 5 other areas. Then when those goals simply become part of your lifestyle you can add other goals. If you consistently do these things for the next 30 days, you will be well on your way to a NEW YOU!

After setting this simple goal, write down the step you will take on a daily basis in order to reach your goal.

Steps I Will Take  To Reach Goals

1)  Mind   Three times a  day I will intentionally take time to focus my thoughts on what is right in front of me.

2) Body     Every day I will walk for one half hour.

3) Spirit   Every day I will take time to pray and focus my thoughts on God.

When you have finished these simple steps you are beginning a NEW WAY to live your life. It may seem insignificant, but if you follow the simple steps you set to reach your goals, you are on a PATH to a NEW YOU! You will be addressing personal needs that previously you had not met before. You will be meeting needs in all the areas that make up YOU, PERSONALLY… MIND, BODY, AND SPIRIT. All it takes is ONE SMALL STEP of change in each area of your life. Your life can change SIGNIFICAN’TLY by making small changes in each area of your life.

In the next few weeks we will be addressing ALL THE AREAS OF YOUR LIFE. But each week we will focus on ONLY ONE of the areas. So begin right now to ACT on the steps you listed to begin to make some positive changes in your PERSONAL LIFE. You have a week to begin before we look at the next area so FOCUS ON YOURSELF for this week. They say it takes aproximately 30 days to create a new habit so we will be working on these goals for 30 days.

So this evening, grab a cup of tea ( or YOUR favorite beverage ), find a cozy place to relax, and set your personal goals and write down one step you will take daily to REACH THAT GOAL. Envision yourself as the NEW YOU after reaching your goal. Remember it only takes SMALL steps that you do on a consistent basis that gets you to your goal. Then TOMORROW, begin DOING THE STEPS you listed!

Thursday we will add some ideas that will spur you on toward your goal! So GET STARTED NOW!
