Joyfully Balanced Life…Next Steps

A joyfully balanced life is one in which you feel calm and satisfied and joyful no matter what is going on around you. I thought this picture of my son’s dog provided a good illustration of the principle. I took this photo of Barkley when we were in Milwaukee last weekend to see our kids. Don’t you think she looks joyfully balanced? Not a care in the world!

As we begin this joyfully balanced workshop, Sandy has asked that you describe in detail what a JOYFULLY BALANCED LIFE would look like to YOU. We hope you have really taken the time to write out a description of what you want your life to look like, covering the six areas listed on the September 14th post. This is a time for brainstorming, plain and simple. There is no test…and no one but you needs to see what you write!

If you have not yet done this, grab a piece of paper or a notebook, a pen, and find a quiet corner to sit down and write. Putting ideas on paper helps to clarify them in your head. For me, it is cathartic to write about what I would like my life to look like. I love dreaming about possibilities for my life!

Later when  you have a description of what you envision a joyfully balanced life looks like for you, we will consider how you can take steps to get there through goal setting. Certainly it is only in a fairytale world that every detail works out perfectly. But with a little goal-setting, you will be amazed at the progress you can make toward living more of the life you want.

And isn’t fall a great time to set some goals? Lots about this season is about new beginnings. And the cooler air invigorates us to get motivated, doesn’t it?

We’ll also then be breaking each area down into a simple plan.

In the next step we  will think about  what specific steps you could take to reach each goal.

Then we will create ways in which to celebrate our success’. It is important to reward yourself when you have worked intentionally toward accomplishing a goal. Having a reward to look forward to will provide incentive to keep going.

At this point, even if you have brainstormed well, and written down a great description of the life you would like to have, and have written a big goal in each of the six areas, and have written smaller steps toward each of those goals, you may feel stuck. Or overwhelmed. Or like you are on the Island of Yeahbut (“Yeah, but…”).

This brings you to the part about overcoming resistance. We will talk more about that in the days ahead. How you need to get organized and clean up the messes that are holding you back before you can really make progress. For now, you can feel good that you have written some stuff down.

These are the steps we will be taking you through in the days ahead. But for now, just put the description of your JOYFULLY BALANCED life down on paper. Stay tuned for more….
