Thankful for surprise connections with friends

Filed under: Uncategorized — bloomingboomers @ 6:42 pm

Yesterday was Halloween, but I thought it would be a bit disappointing this holiday because we were not home during the crucial hours of trick or treating. (We have switched to attending Saturday evening services at our church rather than on Sundays.)

For the past seven years, we have lived on a private street that gets few trick or treaters anyway, but we had SO enjoyed the few we got, and took pictures of their creative costumes. There was one bunch of kids in particular who used to live next store that always came back to the old neighborhood for trick or treating. When we arrived home from church, I commented to my hustand that I was disappointed we missed that connection this year. Then, ding-dong, the doorbell rang. There they were, our friends who used to live next door! They had come later than usual, and we had the joy of connecting with them again after all!

Within minutes of them leaving, the phone rang. It was friends of ours who lived across town and had kids and grandkids visiting. “Could we come to your house trick or treating? ”  “Of course!” I said, and within minutes we had a house full of busy activity as we invited them in for a while. (The photo is of one of their grandkids playing with our dog.)

Halloween surprise

I am thankful for the surprising twist that Halloween took this year, so that we could connect with friends. Life is full of simple pleasures like these. Make note of them each day, and you will realize how blessed you are.
